Hands-On Workshop: Finding Meaningful Metrics for Your Organization

How do you measure your organization’s online impact? How do you determine if you are engaging your audience in ways that are helpful to your organization’s mission? Brian Boyer, Supervising Senior Editor of NPR’s Visuals Team and an industry leader in the use of news applications and multimedia, will look beyond the standard Google Analytics metrics and show participants how to develop metrics that better serve their needs. Boyer will demonstrate different analytic tools and software packages that give you more valuable information to support your business model. Participants will learn how to think about how to design more effective metrics for measuring success.

This workshop is free. Space is limited.

About Brian Boyer:

Brian Boyer

BRIAN BOYER is Supervising Senior Editor of NPR’s Visuals team. He leads a group that creates visual, web-native stories; data-driven news applications and visualizations; charts, maps, and news graphics; and photography and video. The team also edits images for social media and works with editors to create visual strategies for their coverage.

Boyer was the founding editor of NPR’s News Applications team. In 2013, NPR merged News Apps with the Multimedia team, forming the Visuals team.

Prior to entering the world of journalism, Boyer worked in software and consulting for seven years. That changed when he was selected to pursue his master’s degree as a Knight Scholar in Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. He interned at ProPublica and was the founding editor of the News Applications team at the Chicago Tribune.
