In Conversation About Inclusive Writing

August 26, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

As science writers and communicators, our task is to describe not only science but how it affects our lives and our communities. To do so with respect and precision, particularly when writing about historically disadvantaged groups, it’s vital that we carefully consider the words we choose and their impact. During this one-hour discussion, we’ll hear from three expert panelists on various aspects of inclusive writing followed by a group Q&A portion. The panel will be moderated by science journalist and DCSWA vice-president Tien Nguyen and featured speakers include:

Ebonye Gussine Wilkins, social justice writer and editor and CEO of Inclusive Media Solutions LLC
Kate Horowitz, poet, essayist, and science writer at Palladian Partners
deandre a. miles-hercules, doctoral student specializing in sociocultural linguistics at the University of California, Santa Barbara
