Joy of Sweat Book Talk with Sarah Everts

July 15, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Sweat is some stinky, sticky stuff. But it holds surprising secrets. Your sweat can reveal your snacking obsessions, the illicit drugs you’re snorting, and even your risk of developing some diseases. Sweat gets an unfairly bad rap. Join us for a conversation with science journalist Sarah Everts, whose first book, The Joy of Sweat, is a rollicking refutation of perspiration’s gross reputation. She’ll explain how sweat is so much more than our body’s built-in cooling system. She’ll introduce you to the people who sniff sweat for science and the people who sniff it to find potential partners. She’ll regale you with tales of the saunas where people pay to perspire, and of the advertisers who built the $75 billion dollar deodorant and antiperspirant industry. What better way to spend a sweltering, swampy DC summer evening?

Sarah Everts is an award-winning journalist and the CTV Chair in Digital Science Journalism at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.
