It’s DCSWA’s biggest event of the year and registration is now open!
Professional Development Day 2016 will be held Saturday, April 2 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at the AAAS headquarters, 1200 New York Ave NW, Washington, D.C.
This year’s program will feature a plenary lecture by Deborah Blum, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and director of the MIT Knight Science Journalism program.
Breakout sessions will include:
- Using FOIA and public databases to find stories
- Interview techniques
- How to do great investigative science journalism
- Tweet this, Instagram that
- For PIOs: Promoting your work in external media
- Giving voice to the voiceless in science writing
- Alternative markets for science writers: building and diversifying a portfolio
- How to be a more discerning reporter
- The ever-popular pitch slam
Once again, résumé coach Amy Leighton will be available all day for 15-minute one-on-one appointments.
