Professional Development Day Scholarships

Every year, DCSWA offers scholarships to early-career or other science writers wishing to attend Professional Development Day (PDD), for whom paying the registration fee would be a hardship. In exchange, scholars write short blog posts describing PDD sessions and work at the PDD registration table. See example blog posts from last year’s event.

Scholarship applications for PDD 2018 will open in early 2018. Applicants are usually asked to submit information relating to:

  • Their current position and activities
  • Their science writing background and experience, including links to 1-2 clips, if available
  • How attending PDD will help further their science writing career
  • Anything else that will help DCSWA assess an applicant’s need for and ability to benefit from a PDD scholarship

If you’re interested in making a donation to the PDD scholarship fund to help a student, early-career or other science writer with financial need take advantage of one of science writing’s top professional development opportunities, you can donate on this page or email for more information.
