Advances in Food Safety, Crop Protection, and Animal Health

Though federal research funding has increased six-fold since 1980, public money for agricultural science has remained flat. Meet three scientists making advances in food safety, crop protection, and animal health, as they discuss their work and advocate for more funding in the federal budget for agricultural research. Food and drinks will be served.The event is sponsored by the Supporters of Agricultural Research Foundation.

·  Woubit Abdela, PhD, of Tuskegee University, helped develop a new genetic testing process for 25 different strains of salmonella that can be done onsite in less than an hour.

·  Carrie Lapaire Harmon, PhD, of University of Florida, forecasts which plant diseases may appear as Florida’s agricultural sector diversifies.

·   Jason Woodworth, PhD, of Kansas State University, devised a process to control the spread of a virus that has devastated the pork industry.
