National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine workshop on “Best Practices for Effective Nutrition Communications”

Join us on September 21, 2022, from 9 am to 4:30 pm ET for a virtual National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) workshop on “Best Practices for Effective Nutrition Communications.”

This will cover key issues in science, nutrition, and health communications. Our DSCWA Board Member Bruce Y. Lee will open the workshop which will feature editors of leading scientific journals (e.g., Alfredo Morabia, American Journal of Public Health; Christopher Duggan, The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Joseph Alpert, The American Journal of Medicine, and John Pham, Cell), prominent names in print media (e.g., James Hamblin, The Atlantic; Tara Parker-Pope, The Washington Post; Gina Kolata, The New York Times; Dhruv Khullar, The New Yorker, and Jared Hopkins, The Wall Street Journal), TV/radio (Jeanette Betancourt, Sesame Workshop and Renny Lewis, NBC News), social media (e.g., Timothy Caulfield, Eric Topol, and Tamar Haspel), and other types of media (e.g., Latif Nasser of the Netflix show Connected and Susanna Pollack, Games for Change).

The day will conclude with researchers and decision-makers discussing the impact of communications on behavior change and health outcomes (e.g., Marie Bragg, New York University, Debra Eschmeyer, who led First Lady Michelle Obama’s Lets Move Campaign. Erica Rosenthal, University of Southern California Normal Lear Center, and Cinnamon Bloss, University of California, San Diego).
