Tour for DCSWA members @ Doukénie Winery in Hillsboro, VA

June 24, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

On Saturday, June 24th from 2:00 – 5:00 pm, DCSWA board member, geologist and winery science expert Leanne Wiberg will offer an exclusive, in-depth look into grape growing & winemaking in Loudoun County.

Doukénie Winery (where she worked for over 10 years) has given Leanne permission to resurrect her popular Taste of Science tours, this time for DCSWA members and friends. Tour guests will go into the usually off-limits cellar to discuss the scientific and technical details of winemaking and walk through a vineyard to understand the basics of grape growing. Attendees will enjoy a guided tasting of a selection of 5 estate wines in the privacy of a weatherproofed gazebo. Those not wishing to participate in the tasting will be served a single glass of the tasting wine of your choice.

There will be light snacks provided—mainly cheese and crackers—but outside food is allowed in the Gazebo area that DCSWA has rented, so feel free to bring items you’d like to snack on. If you’re looking to have lunch beforehand, we recommend Monk’s BBQ, Magnolias at the Mill, Finn Thai and Market Burger in nearby Purcellville.

Registrants will receive parking information ahead of time. The winery is kindly granting a 10% discount on bottle purchases to members of our group.
