Summary:

The Communications Specialist serves as part of a two-person team within Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Division of Marketing and Communications, handling media and public outreach for the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, one of the nation’s leading pediatric hospitals.

Duties include:

  • Researching, writing, clearing, and distributing/posting materials about scientific research, medical advances, patient stories, faculty achievements, and hospital activities/events through a variety of methods, including news releases, feature articles, social media, and direct pitches to targeted media.
  • Serving as media liaison between journalists and hospital administrators, faculty, and staff. Although the position is primarily remote, the Communications Specialist will periodically be required to be at the hospital in Baltimore for media escorts, hospital events to which media have been invited, and other assignments.
  • Helping produce an internal newsletter for the hospital, providing copy and acting as editor.
  • Identifying internal and external communications opportunities and needs based on organizational priorities and assists with the development of materials for distribution through various channels and platforms.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with internal audiences, including faculty, staff, trainees and students and external audiences including journalists, community stakeholders and consumers, to advance awareness of Johns Hopkins Medicine’s mission, vision and values.
  • Assisting in operational processes and analytical tasks as needed, and coordinates with other Marketing and Communications department colleagues to implement projects and initiatives

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in journalism, public relations, marketing or related communications fields is preferred.

Work Experience:

A minimum of three years of experience in a communications field, preferably in a healthcare or education setting.

Salary Range:
Minimum 25.73 per hour – Maximum 42.48 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
