MASTER CLASS: Science Writing by Storytelling

Got a science story that you don’t know how to tell or sell?
Increasingly the public and editors are demanding that science writing also be storytelling. Participants will leave better knowing how to spot, report, structure, and polish narrative stories through two days of discussions and small group instruction. This workshop will be a master class in writing for experienced science journalists seeking new skills. Instructors include Ross Andersen, The Atlantic; Laura Helmuth, The Washington Post; David Malakoff, Science; Stephen Hall, writer and NYU faculty; Cathy Alter, writer and Johns Hopkins faculty. The workshop will enroll 20 students, who as part of their application must submit a resume, and a story outline, beginning or pitch up to 1200 words for analyzing among a small group.
This workshop is funded by an NASW Peggy Girshman Ideas Grant and is organized by Elizabeth Pennisi and David Malakoff.
